Ukraine’s Elite “Artan” Unit Breaks Russian Lines Near Zaporizhzhia in Coordinated Assault, Video

Ukrainian special forces from the Defense Intelligence Directorate’s “Artan” unit, working alongside other formations of Ukraine’s Armored Forces, have regained control of several frontline positions near the settlement of Stepnohirsk in the Zaporizhzhia region, Ukraine’s military intelligence agency reported on February 25.
According to the agency, the special operations troops carried out a series of successful offensive actions and continue active combat operations as part of a broader coordinated mission along this section of the front.

Military intelligence officials said Russian forces have attempted to hold their lines through constant “meat assaults,” relying on repeated infantry attacks despite mounting losses.
Despite difficult logistics and sustained pressure, fighters from the Artan unit—operating in coordination with other elements of the Defense Intelligence Directorate’s Active Operations Department and Ukraine’s Defense Forces—managed to retake multiple positions and significantly improve Ukraine’s tactical situation in the area.
During the mission, Ukrainian forces destroyed forward Russian assault groups, struck concentrations of enemy personnel and equipment, and eliminated dozens of occupying troops.
“A key component of the special operation was cutting the enemy’s critical logistical arteries by establishing fire control over them,” Ukraine’s military intelligence said.
Strikes targeting Russian supply routes and communications nodes have reduced the effectiveness of enemy assault units operating in the sector, officials added.
“Active actions were carried out in close coordination with other units of the Active Operations Department of the Defense Intelligence Directorate and Ukraine’s Defense Forces. They allowed us to create a stable foothold for further clearing operations and the final expulsion of the enemy,” said Artan commander Viktor Torkotiuk, call sign “Titan.”

He added that Ukrainian defenders remain focused on preventing Russian forces from advancing toward the outskirts of Zaporizhzhia.
According to “Titan,” the success of the offensive near Stepnohirsk was largely driven by a high level of coordination between participating Ukrainian units.
Stepnohirsk holds strategic importance for Ukraine’s defense. If captured, Russian forces could move artillery systems and drone operators closer to the front, increasing pressure on Zaporizhzhia city and nearby settlements.
Earlier, the Ukrainian Armed Forces carried out a successful counteroffensive near Kupiansk, encircling a Russian force inside the city.
