Ukraine Ready to Help Gulf Counter Iranian Shahed Drone Threat, Zelenskyy says

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced Ukraine’s readiness to help its Middle Eastern and Persian Gulf partners counter the severe threat of Iranian drone attacks, the president stated on March 4.
Zelenskyy highlighted the challenges facing Ukraine and its allies, stressing the instability created by Iran’s actions. “The Iranian regime, struggling to maintain its power, is creating clear threats to all the countries in the region, as well as to global stability,” Zelenskyy stated.

“No country near Iran can feel secure. Shipping through the Strait of Hormuz has practically stopped. The Iranian regime shows no real intent for honest diplomacy or fundamental changes,” he continued.
As part of Ukraine’s diplomatic efforts, Zelenskyy has been in consultations with European and US partners, as well as with neighboring countries of Iran. “Yesterday, I spoke with the leaders of the UAE and Qatar. Today, there were conversations with the leaders of Jordan and Bahrain. Talks with Kuwait and other regional countries will follow,” Zelenskyy added.
“They all face serious challenges and speak frankly about them: Iranian strike drones, like the ‘Shaheds,’ which have been attacking our cities, villages, and infrastructure for years during this war,” he said.

Zelenskyy also provided a stark update on the threat posed by Iran’s military activities. “In just a few days, Iran has launched more than 800 rockets of various types and over 1,400 strike drones. These Iranian drones and missiles are the key threat to free navigation and are destabilizing oil, gas, and product prices globally,” he stated.
To address these challenges, Zelenskyy assured that Ukraine is ready to contribute to the protection of civilian life and the stabilization of the situation. “Partners have been reaching out for assistance,” he noted.
“I have instructed the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, together with our intelligence services, the Ministry of Defense, our military command, and the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council, to present support options for these countries and provide help in a way that does not weaken our own defense here in Ukraine,” Zelenskyy continued.

Ukrainian military experts, equipped with the necessary capabilities, are already coordinating to provide support in the region. “Ukrainian experts will be on the ground, and teams are already arranging this,” Zelenskyy confirmed. “We are ready to help protect lives, defend civilians, and support real efforts to stabilize the situation, including restoring safe shipping in the region.”
Zelenskyy also called on the European Union, European nations, and the G7 countries to take an active role in neutralizing Iran’s terrorist capabilities and in protecting lives in the region. “We will continue coordinating with our partners,” he said, reiterating the importance of global cooperation to ensure regional and global stability.
Highlighting the widespread nature of this drone threat, a recent Iranian strike also targeted the Azerbaijani exclave of Nakhchivan. An Iranian drone and missile barrage hit roughly 10 kilometers from the border, injuring two people.
One drone struck the terminal building of the Nakhchivan international airport, while another landed near a school in the village of Shekerabad. In a strong statement, Baku demanded an immediate explanation from Tehran and warned that it reserves the right to take retaliatory measures.
