Lithuania Prepared to Provide Ground Troops and Military Support for US Operations in Iran

Lithuania is prepared to assist the United States in a military operation against Iran, potentially even sending troops, should Washington make such a request, LRT reported, citing a senior official in the Lithuanian government on March 3.
Asta Skaisgirytė, the chief foreign policy adviser to Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda, confirmed that although no such request has been made, Lithuania would assess the situation with its NATO allies if it were to receive one.

“So far, we do not have such a request, and of course, if we received such a request, we would consider it together with other allies,” Skaisgirytė said, while stressing that the discussion of sending Lithuanian forces remains purely hypothetical at this point.
In the same interview, she expressed support for the recent military strikes carried out by the United States and Israel against Iran, citing Tehran’s failure to comply with demands regarding its nuclear program, LRT wrote.
“Unfortunately, Iran did not take into account US demands to stop enriching uranium, to stop producing nuclear weapons, and preventive strikes occurred,” she said. “We believe that the US and Israel acted correctly in this case and we consider it an unavoidable matter.”

The United States and Israel launched the strikes after announcing a lack of progress in negotiations over Iran’s nuclear and missile programs. This escalation follows the US withdrawal from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) in 2018 under President Donald Trump, a move that reinstated sanctions on Iran.
Iran retaliated by targeting American military bases in the Middle East, further heightening tensions in the region.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had previously said that he discussed escalating tensions in the Middle East with United Arab Emirates President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, including recent Iranian strikes that have caused civilian casualties.
“We discussed the key aspects of the situation in the Middle East and the Gulf region with the President of the United Arab Emirates, Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. I expressed my condolences over the lives lost as a result of Iran’s insane strikes,” Zelenskyy said.
According to Zelenskyy, the UAE president emphasized that Iranian attacks have not been limited to military facilities.
“The President noted that the Iranian regime is targeting not only military facilities but virtually everything – residential buildings, shopping malls, even mosques.”
