Ukraine Secures Patriot and HIMARS Missiles Under $1 Billion PURL Program Launch

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that missiles for Patriot air-defense systems and HIMARS rocket launchers will be included in the first two aid packages under the new PURL program, speaking at a joint press conference with European Parliament President Roberta Metsola on September 17.
Ukraine has already received more than $2 billion from international partners specifically for the program, and, according to Zelenskyy, that figure could rise to $3.5–3.6 billion by October.
“The first two packages are worth $500 million each. And what will be in these packages? These packages will definitely include missiles for Patriot and HIMARS,” Zelenskyy said.
Just a day earlier, the US government approved a new military aid package for Ukraine, which will be delivered in the near future.

This marks the first use of a new mechanism developed by the US and allied countries that allows Ukraine to receive American weapons directly from US stockpiles, funded by contributions from partner nations.
The mechanism, known as PURL (Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List), is designed to quickly supply the Ukrainian military with weapons that Washington can provide in sufficient quantities.
Earlier, reports emerged that Germany started delivering two complete Patriot missile systems to Ukraine, with the first launchers already on Ukrainian soil.
