Ukraine to Deploy 1,000 Interceptor Drones Daily to Counter Russian Attacks

Ukraine will soon be deploying up to 1,000 interceptor drones a day, Defense Minister Denys Shmyhal said at a press conference in Kyiv with Poland’s Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, according to Suspilne on September 18.
Shmyhal said the target—at least 1,000 interceptor drones per day—was necessary to counter as many as 800 enemy drones Russia could launch overnight. He added that he could not disclose how many interceptor drones Ukraine currently possesses.

“It’s a large system; its implementation takes some time. But we are confidently, according to the schedule, moving toward this goal,” Shmyhal said.
The minister emphasized that the main bottleneck is not manufacturing the airframes themselves but deploying the supporting infrastructure—ground control stations, radars and other components that use artificial intelligence for guidance.
Previously, it was reported that a major oil and petrochemical facility in Russia’s Bashkortostan region came under drone attack overnight.
