Ukraine to Receive Tens of Thousands of Drones Starting in January, According to UK Defense Official
The Drone Coalition and the Maritime Coalition, within the framework of the Ramstein format, will begin delivering thousands of drones of various types to Ukraine starting in January 2025, as was announced by the Deputy Minister of Defense of the United Kingdom, Luke Pollard, during his address to the House of Commons on December 19.
Pollard confirmed that the UK, in cooperation with its partners—Norway and Latvia—will lead the supply of drones, with the aim of significantly increasing the pace of military aid to Ukraine.
The deliveries are expected to include a broad range of drone types.
“We can confirm that in January, we will begin delivering tens of thousands of drones through the maritime and drone capability coalitions led by the United Kingdom, in collaboration with our partners in Norway and Latvia,” Pollard stated.
He emphasized that these efforts are part of a broader strategy to raise the cost of Russia’s ongoing war in Ukraine, underscoring the importance of accelerating the supply of military equipment to bolster Ukraine’s defense.
The specifics were not provided regarding the types of drones or the timeline of the deliveries.
Earlier in April 2024, a drone coalition co-led by Latvia and the United Kingdom raised over €500 million ($535 million) for the purchase of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) for Ukraine. Formed in January 2024, the coalition now includes seven additional countries, with Denmark and the Netherlands being the largest contributors.
