Meet the New “Sea Baby” Drones Behind the Attack on the Crimean Bridge

The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has demonstrated a new generation of its uncrewed maritime platforms, the “Sea Baby.”
According to SBU on October 22, these drones have already been tested in successful missions in the Black Sea, including their involvement in the third strike on the Crimean Bridge, which occurred on June 3, 2025.
“Our drones have changed the balance of forces in the Black Sea and proven their effectiveness. The new generation of ‘Sea Baby’ is even more effective. Therefore, the work to clear the Black Sea of the Russian fleet will continue. The enemy will feel the full power of our technological developments,” stated SBU Head, Lieutenant General Vasyl Maliuk.

According to SBU Brigadier General Ivan Lukashevych, call sign “Hunter”, during this year's attack on the Crimean Bridge, the "sea babies" successfully delivered explosives to the necessary point, which were used to detonate the supports of the illegal structure.
As reported by SBU, updated “Sea Baby” drones are capable of covering a distance of over 1,500 km, carrying up to 2,000 kg of payload, and feature reinforced engines and a modern navigation system.

The SBU developer team demonstrated two drones with different weapon configurations. The first is equipped with a gyro-stabilized machine gun mount, which includes an auto-capture and target recognition system. The second carries heavy weaponry: a 10-shot "Grad" multiple rocket launcher system.
In a comment to Ukrinform on October 22, “Hunter” emphasized that the newest “Sea Baby” drones are reliably protected from capture.

“These platforms have already traveled several thousand kilometers across the sea. If you look closely, they are patched up from fragments and enemy bullets. But the Sea Baby drones always return to their native shores because the team of SBU engineers and IT specialists has created a system that prevents Ukrainian state-of-the-art developments from falling into the hands of the enemy,” he stated.
According to Ukrinform, in total, during Russia's full-scale invasion, SBU drones have struck 11 Russian ships and damaged the Crimean Bridge twice.
Earlier, the Ukrainian Navy neutralized an unidentified Russian maritime drone after it violated Ukrainian territorial waters and presented a danger to civilian vessels.
