The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) disclosed some details of a unique overnight operation involving Sea Baby maritime drones, which targeted Russian helicopters, patrol boats, and military equipment in Kerch Bay on the night of December 5, shows footage revealed by SBU on December 9.

Russian forces, including helicopters, jets, and Raptor patrol boats, attempted to intercept the drones but found themselves on the defensive as the drones fought back.

“Russian pilots believed they were the hunters, but instead, they became the prey,” said the SBU.

Equipped with heavy machine guns featuring automatic target-tracking and ballistic targeting systems, the Sea Baby drones delivered substantial damage to Russian assets.

Intercepted Russian communications revealed casualties among helicopter crews and significant damage to the aircraft, which now require extensive repairs.

The drones also struck a barge carrying military equipment and supplies for repairing the Kerch Bridge, a structure repeatedly targeted by Ukrainian forces.

“Sea Baby is a multi-purpose platform capable of carrying various weapons, including rocket artillery systems, flying drones, and heavy machine guns. It has once again demonstrated its effectiveness,” stated the SBU’s 13th Military Counterintelligence Directorate.

These advanced waterborne drones were developed through a crowdfunding initiative in February, supported by UNITED24, Monobank, and prominent Ukrainian figures including Oleh Horokhovskyi, Serhiy Sternenko, and Ihor Lachen. Designed for military operations, these drones have proven highly effective during recent missions.

Earlier, Ukrainian naval drones successfully targeted Russian assets in Crimea, reportedly destroying surveillance systems on gas platforms near the coast of the temporarily occupied peninsula.
