Ukraine, US, and Russia to Hold First Official Trilateral Meeting in UAE in Coming Days

Ukraine, the United States, and Russia are preparing to hold their first-ever trilateral talks at a technical level in the coming days, Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on January 22 while speaking at the World Economic Forum in Davos. A move that could mark a rare moment of direct engagement since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion.
The Ukrainian president reminded that, on January 22, the US delegation is set to engage in talks with Russian leader Vladimir Putin. US officials had been waiting for a meeting between Zelenskyy and US President Donald Trump before travelling to Moscow.
“And now they will go, and my team will meet with the American team, and I think that it will be the first trilateral meeting in the Emirates. It will be tomorrow and the day after tomorrow. Yes, it will be a two-day meeting in the UAE,” Zelenskyy stated.
In an interview with journalists, he specified that Ukraine's delegation to the negotiations in the UAE will include National Security and Defense Council Secretary Rustem Umerov, Presidential Office Head Kyrylo Budanov, First Deputy Head of the Presidential Office Serhiy Kyslytsya, the head of the “Servant of the People” faction Davyd Arakhamia, and Chief of the General Staff Andrii Hnatov.

He also expressed hope that the UAE is aware of these plans, as the American side sometimes arranges “surprises.” Regardless, the negotiation teams will proceed with the meeting.
“I think this is good if at the technical level we will begin this trilateral meeting… Russians have to be ready for compromises because, you know, everybody has to be ready, not only Ukraine, and this is important for us," he pointed out.

Earlier, it was reported that Volodymyr Zelenskyy and President Donald Trump are anticipated to meet in Davos later this month to finalize a historic US-Ukraine agreement centered on Ukraine’s post-war recovery, with an estimated value of $800 billion over the next decade.
As reported by The Telegraph, the two leaders plan to use the World Economic Forum in Davos to formalize what has been referred to as a “prosperity plan” along with a separate framework for post-war security guarantees.
