Ukrainian Special Operations Forces carried out precision overnight strikes against Russian military targets in the temporarily occupied Donetsk region, the SSO Command said on December 16, releasing video footage of the operation.

According to the statement, the attacks took place during the night of December 16 and targeted both rocket artillery assets and concentrations of Russian personnel supporting frontline operations.

In the area near the settlement of Blahodatne, SSO drone operators used FP-2 strike drones to hit a storage site for a BM-27 Uragan multiple launch rocket system, as well as positions where its crews and supporting personnel were located.

Ukrainian officials said the strike destroyed the launch system’s storage area and neutralized its crews.

Ukrainian commanders emphasized that eliminating rocket artillery significantly reduces Russia’s ability to conduct massed fire strikes against Ukrainian positions and civilian areas.

In a separate operation near Pokrovsk, Special Operations Forces struck a location where Russian troops had been assembling reserves intended to reinforce units operating along the same axis. The SSO said the strike disrupted enemy manpower buildup in the sector.

The BM-27 Uragan is a Soviet-designed 220 mm multiple launch rocket system mounted on a ZIL-135 chassis. Developed in the early 1970s and introduced into service in 1976, it was designed to replace the older BM-21 Grad. The system can fire a wide range of munitions, including high-explosive fragmentation warheads and scatterable mines, and offers roughly 1.5 times greater accuracy than the Grad due to improvements in rocket flight control.

Earlier, a Russian BM-27 “Uragan” multiple rocket launcher system was rendered inoperable following a precision strike by a Ukrainian FPV drone near the frontline in Donetsk.
