Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico, who is facing declining public trust and protests over his pro-Russian policies, has increasingly portrayed Ukraine as an adversary, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine on January 29.

Ukraine has repeatedly warned about the risks of Slovakia’s pro-Russian political course, and recent statements by Fico and some Slovak lawmakers reflect the influence of Russian propaganda, as they now describe leaders of neighboring democratic states as "enemies."

The ministry stated, “we consider these absurd statements as an attempt to shift responsibility for his own failures in domestic policy to foreign states and leaders. We would advise better to look not outside, but in the mirror.”

The ministry warned that such rhetoric raises questions about whether Fico’s policies align with the Slovak public’s commitment to being part of the European community.

On January 29, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy criticized Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico’s stance, stating, “He chooses Moscow over America and other partners who can provide his country with gas on commercial terms. This is his mistake.”
