Ukraine’s MFA Denies Claims of Being Informed Ahead of Trump-Putin Phone Call
Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has dismissed as false the claims that it was informed in advance about a call between newly elected US President Donald Trump and Russian leader Vladimir Putin.
This was stated by Ukraine's Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson, Heorhii Tykhyi, as quoted by Reuters.
“Reports that the Ukrainian side was informed in advance of the alleged call are false. Subsequently, Ukraine could not have endorsed or opposed the call,” Tykhyi said.
Previously, The Washington Post, citing sources, reported that Trump called Putin to discuss the war in Ukraine. One source told the publication that Trump allegedly advised Putin not to escalate the war, reminding him of the "significant US military presence" in Europe.
Additionally, WP's sources claimed Ukraine was informed about the call and did not object. The publication also noted that Ukrainian officials "have long understood" that Trump would work with Putin on a diplomatic solution to the war in Ukraine.
Previously, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk remarked on potential upcoming decisions from the United States concerning Russia’s war against Ukraine, including possible ceasefire terms. In response, Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterated that any decisions affecting Ukraine’s future must involve Ukrainian input, underscoring the principle, “nothing about Ukraine without Ukraine.”
