Ukraine’s SBU Destroys Two Russian “Drone Hunter” Aircraft at Occupied Airfield

Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU) announced on October 21 that it had destroyed two Russian light aircraft used to intercept Ukrainian long-range drones.
The SBU’s press center reported that the aircraft were located at Russian airfields in temporarily occupied territories. These planes had been deployed by Russian forces to target Ukrainian long-range unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).

“Our specialists destroyed two light aircraft that the occupiers had stationed at airfields and used to shoot down Ukrainian long-range drones,” the agency stated. The operation was conducted by the SBU’s Center for Special Operations “A.”
The service noted that such actions “clear the way” for Ukraine’s long-range drone operations, ensuring what it described as uninterrupted strikes deep into Russian-controlled areas.
“The SBU continues to strike the occupiers by all available means. They will be held accountable for every crime,” the statement added.
Earlier in October, Russian state media inadvertently revealed the location of a drone-hunting airfield near the front line in southern Ukraine.
Footage aired by Russian outlet Vesti showed a Yak-52 trainer aircraft modified for anti-drone missions, allowing analysts to geolocate the site to the private “Korsak” airfield near occupied Pryazovske, roughly 80 kilometers from the front.
The aircraft, identified as part of the “Bars-Sarmat” unit, was seen operating from a resurfaced runway with distinctive tile-patterned surfaces, which helped confirm its position via satellite imagery.
