Ukrainian forces have regained control of nearly 470 square kilometers of territory since the start of their counteroffensive in the south, according to Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi on March 27.

Speaking after a working visit to the southern operational zone, Syrskyi also said Ukrainian troops have eliminated more than 11,000 Russian personnel during the course of the campaign.

The remarks highlight the scale of the ongoing offensive and suggest sustained pressure on Russian positions across the southern front.

“While Russian occupiers once again deliberately target civilian infrastructure and the civilian population—our residential buildings, maternity hospitals, and historical landmarks—the Defense Forces of Ukraine are systematically destroying the enemy on the battlefield,” he said.

Syskiy added that he listened to reports on the execution of combat tasks by personnel and discussed options for further actions, and coordinated interaction between units across areas of responsibility.

“We continue to steadily liberate Ukrainian land from occupiers thanks to the courage and unconventional actions of our soldiers. Since the start of the operation, we have restored control over approximately 470 square kilometers, neutralizing more than 11,000 invaders,” he stated.

According to Syrskyi, the advance has been supported by coordinated efforts between assault and airborne units, with ongoing adjustments to tactics and operations based on battlefield developments.

Earlier, Ukrainian assault units from the Skala regiment cleared the village of Minkivka, a key position along the Bakhmut–Sloviansk route, in an operation aimed at stabilizing the frontline and disrupting Russian offensive plans.

The assault allowed Ukrainian forces not only to regain control of the settlement but also to halt further Russian attempts to advance deeper into Ukrainian defensive lines.
