Ukraine Intelligence Chief Predicts War Could End by February 2026—But Only With Trump’s Help

The Head of Ukraine’s Defense Intelligence, Kyrylo Budanov, stated that the next significant opportunity to end the war with Russia may emerge in February 2026.
In an interview with Ukraine’s Channel 24 on November 18, Budanov said that a combination of critical internal and external factors—including developments within Russia, the United States, and Europe—must align to create a real chance for peace.
He indicated that this alignment is expected in the winter, with pivotal moments likely occurring in mid-February.

“Our window will open again in mid-February. All key events will take place in early to mid-February,” Budanov remarked.
He highlighted Trump’s role as essential in this process, calling his actions “systematic and consistent,” and suggesting that no ceasefire is currently possible without his direct involvement.
“Who is he for us? I’ll just slightly reframe not just your question, but the whole paradigm… Without his intervention, I don’t think there’s a chance to halt the fighting—at least for now,” Budanov concluded.
Earlier, it was reported that President Donald Trump has dispatched a senior War Department delegation to Kyiv as part of a renewed push to restart negotiations with Russia on ending the war in Ukraine.
