According to the brigade, the target was identified and successfully engaged before it could carry out further attacks, highlighting the growing effectiveness of drone-led counter-battery operations.
The BM-21 Grad is one of the most widely used rocket artillery systems in Russian service, designed to deliver rapid, high-volume fire against fortified positions, troop concentrations, and critical military infrastructure in rear areas.
Capable of launching up to 40 rockets in roughly 20 seconds, the system can strike targets at distances ranging from 20 to 40 kilometers, depending on the type of ammunition used. Its mobility typically allows crews to quickly relocate after firing, reducing the risk of retaliation strikes.
In this instance, however, the system failed to evade detection and was hit before it could withdraw.
Ukrainian forces emphasized that eliminating systems like the Grad directly reduces the intensity of incoming fire on their positions, easing pressure along contested sections of the front line.
Earlier, Ukrainian drone operators destroyed a full battery of Russian BM-21 Grad multiple launch rocket systems on the Pokrovsk axis.
Six Grad systems—equivalent to a full battery—were eliminated during the strike.
