Ukrainian FM Sybiha: “Putin’s ‘Parade Ceasefire’ Proves To Be a Farce”

Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha dismissed Russia’s newly declared ceasefire, alleging that Moscow continued large-scale assaults across the frontline despite its own public announcement of a pause in hostilities from May 8 to May 11, Sybiha wrote on May 8.
“I just spoke with Ukraine’s military command, who provided information about the frontline situation. Predictably, Putin’s 'Parade ceasefire' proves to be a farce,” Sybiha stated.
According to Ukrainian military data cited by the minister, Russian forces violated their own ceasefire 734 times between midnight and noon on May 8.
During that period, they launched 63 assault operations, 23 of which were still ongoing at the time of reporting.

Ukrainian troops also came under fire 586 times, including 464 strikes using heavy weaponry. Russia additionally conducted 176 FPV drone attacks and 10 airstrikes deploying a total of 16 guided bombs.
Sybiha emphasized that Ukraine is documenting every violation and sharing the data with international partners.
“We are responding appropriately to all attacks and sharing all relevant information about Russia’s ceasefire violations with the United States, the EU and European partners, all other states, and international organizations,” he said. “We will not let Putin fool anyone when he does not even keep his own word.”

Despite the violations, Sybiha reaffirmed Ukraine’s openness to a genuine ceasefire and peace process.
“Ukraine remains ready for at least 30-day full ceasefire and confidence-building measures, which will enable peace negotiations and the real path to a fair and sustainable peace,” he added.
The ceasefire, declared by Russian President Vladimir Putin in late April, is scheduled to run from May 8 through May 11, coinciding with Russia’s Victory Day celebrations and a military parade in Moscow on May 9.
According to Russia’s defense ministry, all Russian forces were ordered to halt combat operations as of midnight on May 8.
“The Russian Armed Forces strictly adhere to the ceasefire regime and are not conducting strikes using aircraft, missile forces, artillery, or UAVs,” the ministry claimed.
Earlier, Ukraine held a series of online meetings with representatives from the United States, European Union, Nordic countries, and Baltic states to discuss a proposed 30-day ceasefire.
