Ukrainian Forces Repel Russian Assault, Destroy Armored Convoy in Kursk Region, Video
Ukrainian forces successfully repelled a Russian assault in the Kursk region. According to the Command of Ukraine’s Air Assault Forces, Russian units deployed 14 military vehicles, including two tanks, 11 airborne infantry fighting vehicles (IFVs), and one armored personnel carrier (APC).
The attempt to break through Ukraine’s defensive positions failed. After several hours of combat, Ukrainian forces destroyed five IFVs, one tank, and one APC, leaving numerous Russian soldiers dead on the battlefield. The surviving Russian troops retreated.
Ukrainian forces currently control more than 100 settlements and approximately 1,294 square kilometers of territory.
Earlier, President Zelenskyy shared that Ukraine’s offensive in Russia’s Kursk region has largely met its expectations. Ukrainian forces successfully halted Russian advances in the Kharkiv region and slowed their progress in Donetsk.
Speaking at the Yalta European Strategy (YES) Forum on September 13, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy highlighted one significant result of the operation: the reduction in the number of shells used by Russian forces on the Donetsk frontline. Before the Kursk operation, the ratio of shell use was 1 to 12 in favor of Russia. Now, it has narrowed to 1 to 2.5.
Zelenskyy also noted that although Russia has initiated offensive actions in the Kursk region, they have seen limited success. In response to Ukraine’s offensive, Russia has withdrawn troops from other key areas, including Zaporizhzhia and Kharkiv, to reinforce its presence in Kursk. Currently, around 40,000 Russian troops are stationed in the region, with plans to increase that number to between 60,000 and 70,000.
“For one or another military success, they wanted to capture the centers of these regions. This is what the Kursk operation gave. I think maybe some expected different results, but it gave the results that, frankly, we were counting on,” Zelenskyy said.
