Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy Arrives in France for D-Day Anniversary
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, accompanied by his wife Olena, arrived in Caen, France, on June 6, marking their participation in the events commemorating the 80th anniversary of the D-Day Allied landings in Normandy during World War II.
Zelenskyy noted that he has important meetings and events planned during his visit.
“In addition, we will have the honor of joining a special event — the commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the Allied landings in Normandy. This event and this day remind us of the courage and determination shown for freedom and democracy. The Allies defended the freedom of Europe then, the Ukrainians are doing it now. Unity won then, true unity can win now,” Zelenskyy added.
During his time in France, Zelenskyy is slated to hold crucial meetings with US President Joe Biden and French President Emmanuel Macron. Following the ceremonies in Normandy, Zelenskyy is scheduled to proceed to Paris.
Part of the visit’s itinerary includes a meeting with French Defense Minister Sébastien Lecornu, where they will tour the KNDS arms group’s facilities near Paris, focusing on artillery ammunition production.
Moreover, President Zelenskyy is set to address the National Assembly, the lower house of the French parliament, and engage in discussions with its head, Yaël Braun-Pivet, who visited Ukraine in March.
On June 3 it was announced that Zelenskyy will participate either online or in-person at the Group of Seven (G7) summit, scheduled to take place in Apulia, Italy from June 13-15.
