Ukrainian troops are holding their ground at the Kurakhivska Thermal Power Plant (TPP) in the Donetsk region despite intensified Russian attempts to dislodge them, according to Victor Tregubov, spokesperson for the ‘Khortytsia’ Operational-Strategic Group of Forces on a national TV on January 10.

“Currently, Russian forces are trying to attack near Dachne and drive Ukrainian forces out of Kurakhove,” Tregubov said.

Tregubov noted that Ukrainian troops are not only maintaining control of the critical power plant but are also delivering significant blows to the enemy.

“Our forces are doing everything possible in that area, destroying vast quantities of enemy equipment,” he added.

Earlier, Ukrainian forces repelled a Russian tank assault on the Kurakhove front, with the 130th separate territorial defense battalion taking down a Russian armored column attempting to breach defensive positions.

In addition, Kurakhivska TPP in the Donetsk region was dismantled for parts to repair other damaged power facilities across Ukraine after the Russians destroyed the bridge that supplied coal to the plant, bringing operations to a halt.
