The United Nations General Assembly has passed an updated resolution addressing the human rights situation in Russian-occupied Ukrainian territories, including Crimea and Sevastopol.

This was Ukraine's Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha via his post on the social media platform X on December 18.

Sybiha noted that Ukraine has been proposing this resolution every year since 2016.

“The document strongly condemns Russia’s aggression, reaffirms Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, and demands an immediate end to the war and withdrawal of Russian forces,” the minister wrote.

“The resolution strengthens international monitoring of grave human rights and humanitarian law violations and underscores the imperative of accountability,” the Minister of Foreign Affairs emphasized.

He also thanked the 79 UN member states for their steadfast support.

Earlier, the International Court of Justice (ICJ) determined that Russia’s counterclaim against Ukraine concerning the breach of the Genocide Convention is admissible.

As announced on the ICJ website, the court affirmed that Russia's claim regarding Ukraine's “allegations of genocide” is “admissible” and will be included in the ongoing proceedings related to Ukraine's case against Russia for violating the Genocide Convention.
