UN Security Council Convenes Emergency Meeting After Deadly Russian Missile Strikes on Kyiv

The UN Security Council will hold an emergency meeting on August 29 at the request of Ukraine, following Russia’s massive missile strike on Kyiv.
Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha announced the decision on August 29, stressing that the meeting is a direct response to Russia’s latest wave of attacks on the capital and other Ukrainian cities. The strikes resulted in numerous civilian casualties, including children.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs urged members of the Security Council to use the session as an opportunity to demonstrate solidarity with Ukraine and to intensify pressure on Russia. According to the MFA, only decisive measures can force Moscow to abandon its attempts to imitate diplomacy and instead join real efforts aimed at ending the war.
