UNITED24 Journalists Targeted by Russian FPV Drone in Latest Attack on the Press
While reporting from the frontline, UNITED24 Media cameraman Yegor Terletskyi and reporter Philip Malzahn came under sudden attack by a Russian first-person-view (FPV) drone. The drone—controlled via fiber-optic cable—had been lying in wait along the roadside. The 65th Brigade of Russia’s Airborne Assault Forces (VDV) has already released footage of the strike.
Thanks to the rapid response of the accompanying Ukrainian soldiers, the journalists managed to leap from their vehicle moments before impact.
In October 2025, three journalists were killed in Russian drone attacks: French photographer Antoni Lallican and Ukrainian reporters Olena Hramova and Yevhen Karmazin.
As of November 13, 2025, at least 138 media workers have been killed since the Russian Federation launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
According to verified data from the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine (NUJU) and the International Federation of Journalists, the casualties include 21 media professionals who died while carrying out their duties and 10 media workers killed as civilian victims.
Moreover, 107 journalists and media employees were killed while fighting in the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Earlier on November 16, Ukraine marked Radio, Television and Communications Workers’ Day with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy honoring 21 media professionals for their contributions. Four were recognized posthumously after being killed as a result of Russia’s aggression.
