“Until This Morning We Had No Missiles”: Zelenskyy Announces Major Air Defense Resupply

Until this morning, some of Ukraine’s air defense systems were operating without missiles, but the required ammunition has now arrived.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy shared the update during a press conference after meeting with Czech President Petr Pavel on January 16.

He highlighted that Ukraine possesses “a very large number” of various air defense systems delivered since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion, all of which constantly need missile supplies. Zelenskyy also pointed out that the challenge is not limited to Patriot systems, which “will never be enough.”
“Today, thank God, in the morning we received a serious package. It is now in Ukraine, I can speak about it. But it comes at a cost—with force, blood, and lives of people, etc.,” he said.
The president noted that Ukraine has recently struggled with shortages of different types of missiles.

“For example, until this morning, we had several air defense systems without missiles. Today I can speak openly about this because today I have these missiles,” Zelenskyy explained.
He stressed that each missile shipment “has to be extracted from European and American countries,” adding that the situation should not be blamed solely on the United States, as “we are talking about all the other systems that protect our energy infrastructure.”
Earlier, Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that joint international efforts targeting Russia’s so-called shadow fleet of sanctioned oil tankers have already disrupted the operations of at least 20% of those vessels, dealing a notable setback to Moscow’s oil exports and its capacity to fund the war.
