The Pentagon is deploying a Marine expeditionary unit to the Middle East as Iran steps up attacks in the Strait of Hormuz, according to European Pravda on March 13.

The Ukrainian outlet, citing The Wall Street Journal and informed sources, reported that US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth approved a request from US Central Command to send the unit. The command oversees US forces in the region.

Two US officials indicated the force would be a Marine expeditionary unit, which usually includes about 2,500 Marines.

Donald Trump earlier stated that the United States was “completely destroying” what he called Iran’s terrorist regime and announced new strikes, while Hegseth has argued that Iran’s military capabilities were significantly weakened by a prolonged US and Israeli strike campaign.

Furthermore, rising confrontation has been accompanied by reports of possible missile launches toward US facilities in the region.

OSINT channels indicated that Iran launched two to three ballistic missiles toward Türkiye’s Incirlik Air Base near Adana on March 13, with sirens and explosions reported in nearby towns.

A video circulating online appeared to show an unidentified missile crossing the night sky over the area, but Turkish authorities had not confirmed an attack, and it was unclear whether air defenses intercepted anything.

Incirlik is a key NATO hub and is widely assessed to store US B61 nuclear bombs—often estimated at 20 to 50—making it a symbolic target as regional strikes broaden.
