Washington: “We Remain Ukraine’s Strongest Backers” as Arms Deliveries Resume

The United States remains firmly committed to supporting Ukraine and will continue to supply defensive weapons, despite a recent technical pause in shipments, State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce said during a press briefing on July 8.

Addressing questions about Washington’s stance following recent remarks by President Donald Trump regarding Russian leader Vladimir Putin, Bruce emphasized that “the official US policy of supporting Ukraine has not changed.”

“We have been and remain Ukraine’s strongest backers. We care about these people and about ensuring they have what they need,” Bruce said.

She confirmed that the resumption of arms deliveries to Ukraine is now underway, calling the recent pause part of a planned review of military aid programs.

“We are now seeing […] a restoration of weapons shipments to Ukraine,” she stated.

According to Bruce, the brief delay did not reflect any change in US foreign policy. She reiterated that President Trump remains committed to helping Ukraine resist mass atrocities and pursue a ceasefire agreement.

“We have supported Ukraine, and we will continue to support Ukraine. That position is unchanged,” she concluded.

Earlier, Trump promised President Volodymyr Zelenskyy the immediate delivery of 10 Patriot air defense interceptors to strengthen Ukraine’s protection against ongoing Russian missile attacks.
