Western Ukraine Rocked by Airstrike as Russian Missile Slams Into Ternopil High-Rise

A Russian missile barrage targeted western Ukraine overnight, collapsing part of a high‑rise in Ternopil, killing at least 25 and injuring dozens of other residents—including children—as simultaneous strikes battered Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk, and Kharkiv, overwhelming emergency crews across the region.

In the early hours of November 19, Russia unleashed a massive overnight aerial assault across several Ukrainian cities, targeting western regions with a combination of suicide drones and cruise missiles.

Local authorities reported damage to residential areas, civilian infrastructure, and energy facilities, with at least 25 people killed, 122 injured, including children.

Ternopil: missile and drone strikes leave destruction

In Ternopil, a combination of missiles and drones struck the city as residents reported loud explosions before dawn.

UPD. As of 12:11 p.m., the Ukrainian National Police reported that 16 people were killed and 64 were injured as a result of a Russian missile strike on a civilian high-rise in Ternopil.

UPD2. As of 1:18 p.m., Ukrainian SES reported that the number of victims of the Russian missile strike on the residential high-rise in Ternopil increased to 20, which includes 2 children.

UPD3. As of 3:09 p.m., SES stated that the death toll from the Russian airstrike increased to 25 people, including 3 children. 73, including 15 children, were wounded. The rescue operation is still ongoing.

UPD3. As of 9:00 p.m., SES reported that the death toll from the Russian airstrike escalated to 28 people, 94, including 18 children, were wounded. Another 16 individuals are considered missing, and the rescue operation remains ongoing.

Officials urged civilians to remain in shelters and avoid sharing photos or videos of the aftermath. According to Mayor Serhii Nadal, multiple residential buildings were damaged. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that nine people were killed and dozens were injured. Air raid alerts remained active well into the morning.

The head of the Ukrainian Center for Countering Disinformation, Andrii Kovalenko, confirmed that a multi-story residential building was among the targets destroyed.

Local authorities later warned of disruptions to public transit in the Soniachnyi neighborhood as emergency services responded.

Kharkiv: dozens injured in drone strikes

Kharkiv came under heavy fire from Iranian-made Geran-2 drones around midnight, according to the regional police.

The Slobidskyi and Osnovianskyi districts were hardest hit, with over 10 apartment buildings, a supermarket, gym, school, ambulance substation, garages, and even public transport vehicles suffering damage.

46 civilians were reported injured, including two children aged 9 and 13 who were treated for acute stress reactions.

Lviv: energy infrastructure damaged

Lviv was also struck by both drones and cruise missiles. Explosions were reported shortly after 6:40 a.m., prompting air raid sirens and transport shutdowns.

Governor Maksym Kozytskyi confirmed that an energy facility was damaged and fires broke out at a woodworking plant and a tire warehouse. Initial reports indicated no casualties.

Ivano-Frankivsk: children among the injured

Further south, Russian forces struck the Ivano-Frankivsk region, injuring at least three people, including two children, according to Governor Svitlana Onyshchuk.

The strikes targeted energy infrastructure and damaged a household in the Ivano-Frankivsk district. Emergency crews and medics are working to clear the aftermath, with the governor thanking air defense teams for their quick response.

Earlier, Oleh Syniehubov, Head of the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration, reported a missile strike on the town of Berestyn, which resulted in 9 casualties, including a 16-year-old boy. A 17-year-old girl later died from the injuries sustained in the attack, while 7 others were hospitalized with blast injuries, and 2 suffered acute stress reactions.
