President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and French President Emmanuel Macron met to advance key defense priorities, including the increase of Mirage fighter jet supplies and the launch of joint production of interceptor drones to protect Ukraine’s civilian infrastructure from ongoing Russian missile and drone attacks.

This was announced by the Office of the President of Ukraine on June 24.

According to President Zelenskyy, Mirage jets have already proven effective in intercepting Russian drones and cruise missiles, significantly strengthening Ukraine’s strike aviation. The leaders discussed expanding deliveries to enhance Ukraine’s ability to defend critical infrastructure.

A major focus of the meeting was the creation of joint production lines for interceptor drones, aimed at countering Russia’s regular use of UAV swarms against Ukrainian cities.

The two presidents also coordinated further measures to tighten international pressure on Russia, including steps to expand defense industry cooperation, reduce the oil price cap, and introduce new sanctions on Russian liquefied natural gas.

The meeting also covered Ukraine’s expectations for the upcoming NATO summit in The Hague and broader global security issues, including the situation in the Middle East.

Earlier, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that while Ukraine has the capacity to produce up to 8 million drones of various types each year, existing funding supports only a small portion of that potential.
