Zelenskyy Names Olha Stefanishyna as Ukraine’s New Ambassador to the United States

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy formally appointed Olha Stefanishyna as Ukraine’s new Ambassador to the United States, completing all official procedures.
The President announced the decision in his evening address on August 27.
“I just spoke with Olha Stefanishyna—now the new Ambassador of Ukraine to the United States of America. The formal procedures are completed—today I signed the decree on her appointment. I set the key tasks for renewing the work of our Embassy, and most importantly—to fully implement all the agreements with Washington, our agreements with President Trump, above all in the defense sector. In many ways, Ukraine’s long-term security depends on relations with America,” Zelenskyy said.
According to the President, two major Ukrainian proposals are currently on the table: “These are strong proposals. One is an agreement on weapons for Ukraine, the other—an agreement on modern drones for the United States. And we expect quick progress in our relations.”

Zelenskyy also expressed gratitude to outgoing Ambassador Oksana Markarova, who represented Ukraine in Washington throughout the years of Russia’s full-scale war.
“I am grateful to Oksana Markarova. Oksana represented Ukraine in Washington during all these years of full-scale war— a very difficult mission. And Ukraine was always heard in the United States. I want to thank her for this work. We have already spoken about further cooperation, and I invited Oksana Markarova to remain part of the team—to continue working for Ukraine,” the President stressed.
Olha Stefanishyna has long been involved in Ukraine’s European and Euro-Atlantic integration policy. In 2020, she was appointed Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration. From September 5, 2024, to July 17, 2025, she served as Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration as well as Minister of Justice of Ukraine.
Previously, it was reported that most Americans support sanctioning Russia’s trading partners as a way to pressure Moscow into ending its war against Ukraine.
