Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that a peace agreement to end the war remains “very, very far away,” according to AP News on March 2.
Speaking at a briefing in London, he emphasized the need for continued U.S. involvement in Ukraine’s security, stating that any future foreign presence in the country “should include the presence of the United States of America in one way or another.”
Zelenskyy also reiterated Ukraine’s willingness to sign a minerals agreement with the United States, despite recent diplomatic tensions. “The agreement that’s on the table will be signed if the parties are ready,” Zelenskyy said.
The deal, aimed at facilitating Ukraine’s post-war recovery and ensuring U.S. access to Ukraine’s mineral resources, was expected to be finalized during Zelenskyy’s visit to Washington on Friday.
Earlier on March 2, former U.S. President Donald Trump wrote on Truth Social that the U.S. should “spend less time worrying about Putin” and focus on immigration, claiming migrants were responsible for various crimes.
