Zelenskyy: Russia’s Military Exercises in Belarus Could Signal New Attacks

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has expressed concern that Russia is preparing something in Belarus, possibly hiding behind the guise of military exercises.
Speaking at the Three Seas Summit on April 29, Zelenskyy emphasized that countries bordering Russia should remain vigilant in the face of potential new threats.
He noted that Russia often initiates its new attacks under the pretext of military drills, making it crucial for neighboring nations to be prepared for any developments.
Zelenskyy underscored the importance of unified support across Europe, particularly among countries bordering Russia, to apply consistent pressure on the Kremlin.
“And look at Belarus – this summer, Russia is preparing something there, under the guise of military exercises. This is usually how its new attacks begin. But where this time? I do not know. Ukraine? Lithuania? Poland? God forbid. But we all have to be ready. All our institutions are open to cooperation,” he said.
He called for continued strong partnerships with Europe and the United States, emphasizing the need to maintain pressure on Russia for a full and unconditional ceasefire.
“Everyone can contribute to help us achieve a full and unconditional ceasefire as soon as possible— even for 30 days. This is what can lay the foundation for real, effective diplomacy,” Zelenskyy said.
While reiterating Ukraine’s ongoing need for support, Zelenskyy highlighted that Russia aims to prolong the war, stressing the significance of investments in Ukraine’s defense industry.
“What we are building now will protect not only us but also those who invest,” he said.
In related news, Russia is expanding military bases near its border with Finland and positioning additional troops closer to Europe, potentially preparing for a future confrontation with NATO.
