In his evening address on May 7, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reiterated Ukraine’s stance on the ongoing war, noting that the offer to halt strikes and hold a ceasefire for at least 30 days remains available.

“We are not withdrawing this offer, which could provide an opportunity for diplomacy,” Zelenskyy said.

However, Zelenskyy pointed out the lack of response from Russia, noting, “But from Russia, the world sees no answer—no answer except for new strikes. This makes it crystal clear to everyone who is the source of the war.”

The President also highlighted the growing international pressure on Russia, warning that sanctions against the aggressor will only intensify.

“Sanctions against Russia for this war will increase, and these will be significant sanctions,” he noted. “World justice will also move forward, albeit slowly in many cases, but, importantly, inevitably.”

Addressing the situation on the battlefield, Zelenskyy also reported on the Ukrainian military’s ongoing defense efforts in the Kursk and Belgorod regions.

“We are protecting our land from enemy activity along the border,” he added. He took the opportunity to express his gratitude to the Ukrainian forces: “I want to thank every unit, every soldier, every sergeant, and every commander. Your resilience and strength are exactly what Ukraine needs right now.”

Previously, it was reported that Russia has dismissed Ukraine’s proposal for a 30-day ceasefire, opting instead to push forward with its own limited three-day truce timed around the May 9 Victory Day celebrations in Moscow.

Despite this, in the early hours of May 7, Kyiv was rocked by explosions as Russian forces launched another wave of ballistic and drone attacks on the capital.
