The Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy visited the first German-Ukrainian joint defense venture, Quantum Frontline Industries, which has begun producing drones for Ukraine’s military, marking a significant step in Kyiv’s push to expand weapons manufacturing with European partners, Zelenskyy wrote on X on February 13.

Ukrainian President said he had received the first attack drone produced through the partnership and observed both the assembly process and an initial test flight.

“Today we are at the first German-Ukrainian joint venture—which is already producing drones for the Ukrainian Army. Today I received the first jointly made attack drone. We saw the production line and the first flight of the drone. This is modern Ukrainian technology. Battle-tested. Powered by AI. It will strike, it will scout, it will protect our soldiers. And this year, ten thousand drones manufactured here will go to Ukraine and strengthen our forces.”

Kyiv has spent months working to establish joint production sites across Europe in an effort to scale up battlefield drone output and secure more stable supply chains beyond its borders. According to Zelenskyy, the launch of the facility in Germany represents the first operational result of that strategy, with additional ventures planned before the end of the year.

“Ukraine has long worked to open coproduction lines in Europe. And today—this line is operational. First in Germany. This is a real result. Overall, by the end of the year we will open 10 joint ventures producing Ukrainian drones.”

Zelenskyy also expressed gratitude to German leadership and the public for supporting the initiative and broader defense cooperation.

“I thank Chancellor Friedrich Merz, the Government of Germany, Minister of Defense Boris Pistorius personally, and the German people. Ukraine is always ready to share the experience we got in defending life.”

Earlier, reports emerged that German defense technology company STARK was set to expand its footprint in Ukraine with the launch of a new research and development hub that could accelerate the delivery of advanced unmanned systems to the battlefield.
