Zelenskyy Warns Hungary Is “Crossing a Dangerous Line” With Spy Drone Over Ukraine

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has warned that Hungary is engaging in “very dangerous things” after the appearance of a Hungarian reconnaissance drone over Ukrainian territory.
The comments were made during a press conference in Kyiv on September 27, according to Ukrinform.
Zelenskyy confirmed that Ukrainian forces recorded the movement of a Hungarian drone in the skies above Zakarpattia.
He said Ukraine’s Armed Forces and intelligence services presented evidence to counter Hungarian claims that the incident was fabricated. “There is everything: recorded movement in electronic form, there are photos, there are different things,” Zelenskyy said, stressing that the information had been made public to ensure transparency.

The president noted that the crucial question is what exactly the Hungarian drone was attempting to observe in Ukraine.
“It is very important what the Hungarian reconnaissance drone studies on the territory of Ukraine. I, in principle, understand what. And I believe they are doing very dangerous things. Very dangerous things, first of all for themselves,” Zelenskyy stated.
Zelenskyy also emphasized that Ukraine remains ready for dialogue with Budapest but sees “no positive steps” from the Hungarian government. He underlined that the issue lies not with Hungary’s population, but with its leadership.

Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha publicly shared the exact flight path of the Hungarian drone on X, accusing “blind Hungarian officials” of ignoring the evidence. He stated that Ukraine’s Armed Forces had gathered all necessary data and are still waiting for Budapest to explain the drone’s presence in Ukrainian airspace.
The Ukrainian military leadership has previously reported that Hungarian reconnaissance drones may have been searching for information about Ukraine’s defense industry.
On September 26, Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi briefed Zelenskyy on the matter. The General Staff later published evidence of airspace violations, while the Hungarian Ministry of Defense denied the presence of any drones.
Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó dismissed Ukraine’s claims, going as far as saying Zelenskyy had “lost his mind,” according to media reports. Despite this, Kyiv has instructed its forces to respond appropriately should Hungarian drones cross into Ukrainian airspace again.
