President Volodymyr Zelenskyy warned against the potential withdrawal of the United States from peace negotiations aimed at ending Russia’s full-scale invasion, speaking during a press conference in Kyiv on April 22.
“We would not want America to withdraw its support,” Zelenskyy stated. “This isn’t just about military aid – it’s about intelligence, ballistics, and most importantly, human lives. Stepping back would mean the loss of a strategic partner in Ukraine.”
The President also emphasized that Ukraine stands as a US ally, while Russia remains a direct threat.
“This is a very dangerous moment. I don’t think it sends a very good signal if the US pulls out. We really hope that President Trump will support Ukraine and put pressure on Russia,” Zelenskyy added.
Earlier, during a press briefing on April 22, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine is ready to engage in negotiations with Russia in any format, provided that a ceasefire is first implemented. He also said that Ukraine has not received an official peace proposal from the United States, clarifying that although discussions have occurred, they should not be interpreted as formal initiatives.
