How a Ukrainian Developer Built an FPV Simulator to Hunt Russian Shaheds

Ukrainian FPV combat drone simulator Remote Reaper officially launched out of Steam Early Access with version 1.0, marking the software’s largest update since development began.
The full release introduces airborne targets—specifically Shahed drones—alongside a time trial racing mode, new missions, and various technical enhancements, according to dev.ua.

Developer Vladyslav Fomenko built the project independently in direct collaboration with active military drone operators. To recreate flight mechanics with high accuracy, Fomenko personally tested uncrewed aerial vehicles at training grounds.
The software recreates real operational conditions, simulating the impact of electronic warfare systems, adverse weather, armored vehicle protection, and terrain topography.
"Shooting down Shaheds is more fun with friends," Fomenko noted, highlighting the simulator's online cooperative multiplayer feature, as reported by dev.ua.
The addition of aerial targets stands out as the core upgrade in version 1.0. Intercepting Iranian-designed attack drones requires operators to apply distinct handling techniques and approach vectors compared to ground strikes, alongside detonating the payload while airborne.

The update also incorporates a time trial mode featuring three dedicated tracks for flight skill practice, as well as new combat scenarios covering multiple rocket launcher hunting, infantry engagements in foggy conditions, and expanded tutorial courses.
Visual damage displays appear on struck targets, while opposing infantry can now deploy smoke screens to break line of sight.
Control options expanded to include gamepad support within a simplified control scheme, improved navigation on Steam Deck devices, and an updated flight compass with target tracking markers.

The program retains a detailed drone builder that factors component weight into flight duration, alongside a custom mission editor supported by Steam Workshop integration.
Previously, it was reported that Ukrainian defense company TENETA developed a new lightweight, single-use anti-drone device designed to counter enemy FPV drones and reconnaissance quadcopters.
