#Blackouts

As Russian missile and drone strikes plunged large parts of Kyiv into darkness and cold on the night of January 15, residents sheltering in municipal “Points of Invincibility” and inside unheated apartments, which they described as having gone days without electricity, water, or heating, rejected the idea that the pressure would force them to give in.

With winter coming, Russia has been increasing its attacks on Ukrainian infrastructure, leaving cities without essential services like heat, water, or electricity. Despite these harsh challenges, children’s clubs in Ukraine are adapting to the outages, utilizing charging stations and generators.

As Ukraine faces severe blackouts due to ongoing Russian attacks, acclaimed Ukrainian architect and designer Victoria Yakusha will debut Land of Light II at Design Miami 2025—a powerful light installation crafted from sustainable materials.

As Russia’s war on Ukrainian energy intensifies, blackouts roll across both Kyiv and the nation. The capital slips into an unfamiliar darkness—streets lit only by headlights, flashlights, and the flicker of candlelight behind windows.
