Daily Update: Russia Loses 1,220 Troops, 2 Air Defense Systems, and a Helicopter in One Day

Russian forces lost another 1,220 troops, two air defense systems, and one helicopter over the past 24 hours, Ukraine’s General Staff reported on May 18.

According to the latest figures, Russia’s total estimated personnel losses since the start of the full-scale invasion on February 24, 2022, have reached approximately 1,350,010.

Ukraine’s military also reported the destruction of one tank, five armored combat vehicles, 47 artillery systems, two multiple launch rocket systems, and five ground robotic systems over the past day.

Russian drone losses also continued to rise, with 1,603 operational-tactical UAVs reportedly destroyed in 24 hours. Ukrainian forces also hit 220 vehicles and fuel tankers, along with four pieces of special equipment.

Overall, Russian equipment losses reported by Ukraine now include 11,939 tanks, 24,583 armored combat vehicles, 42,262 artillery systems, 1,792 multiple launch rocket systems, 1,386 air defense systems, 436 aircraft, 353 helicopters, 297,057 operational-tactical drones, 33 ships and boats, and two submarines.

The General Staff added that 242 combat engagements took place along the front line over the past day, as Russian forces continued offensive operations across multiple sectors.

Earlier, reports emerged that Russia’s prison population has fallen to its lowest level since the early 2000s, with officials attributing part of the decline to the recruitment of inmates for military service in Ukraine.
