EU Urges Member States to Transfer Patriot Missiles to Ukraine from Own Stockpiles

The European Union is calling on member states to transfer Patriot air defense missiles from their own stockpiles to Ukraine, declaring the reinforcement of Ukrainian air defense an absolute priority, Babel correspondent reported on August 13.

The urgent appeal from Brussels comes as Ukraine faces a critical shortage of interceptors after US President Donald Trump refused to supply 300 Patriot missiles or allow their licensed production on Ukrainian soil.

European Commission spokeswoman Anitta Hipper confirmed the diplomatic push during a briefing in Brussels. She stated that EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas has directly appealed to all member nations holding relevant reserves to provide them to Kyiv, according to Babel.

Kallas is maintaining regular contact with EU governments to negotiate increased volumes and accelerate delivery schedules for the essential munitions.

Furthermore, the European Union is speeding up its joint weapons procurement procedures through the SAFE program , an initiative that includes Ukraine’s active participation to secure necessary defense equipment, Babel wrote.
