Fedorov Sends Urgent Letters to 40 Nations on Patriot Missile Transfers

Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov has sent official letters to nearly 40 partner nations requesting an immediate transfer of Patriot interceptor missiles from their active stockpiles.
These urgent shipments would be made in exchange for future deliveries already secured under long-term contracts, according to The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.

The defense ministry announced the sweeping diplomatic initiative on July 2, as Kyiv seeks to address a critical ammunition shortage while defending against heavy aerial strikes during Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
To intercept Russian ballistic threats, Ukraine relies heavily on American-made Patriot defense networks, but current ammunition flows remain severely limited.
Kyiv has taken substantial measures to ensure long-term coverage, including a major contract supported by Germany for hundreds of PAC-2 missiles with deliveries scheduled over the coming years.
Alongside this, a separate initiative will purchase approximately 100 Patriot missiles worth $1 billion funded by an EU loan. Additionally, Ukraine began receiving missiles directly from European partner warehouses for the first time this year.

"However, this is not enough — Ukraine critically needs additional missiles for Patriot systems. They are in the warehouses of partners. And the protection of the Ukrainian sky depends precisely on fast decisions, scaling of the PURL mechanism, and procurement of missiles through JUMPSTART," the Ministry of Defense stated.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy also underscored the critical challenges posed by the ongoing aerial warfare. Following a massive Russian assault on Kyiv that resulted in 23 fatalities, President Zelenskyy inspected one of the strike locations, where he addressed Ukraine's severe deficit in air defense ammunition.
He noted that the successful interception of ballistic missiles requires twice the volume of Patriot interceptor missiles. Furthermore, the President emphasized that Ukraine is conducting its defense independently and urgently called upon international partners to fulfill existing security agreements in a timely manner to prevent further civilian casualties.
"If international partners had delivered what they promised on time, I think we could have saved a greater number of homes, to be honest, and people," Zelenskyy said.
