Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said a ceasefire in occupied Oleshky could set a precedent for similar humanitarian pauses in other areas where civilians need assistance, Interfax reported on October 26.
Asked whether the Oleshky arrangement could serve as a model elsewhere, Peskov indicated that Moscow considered such agreements possible when they were intended for humanitarian purposes.

Russia has temporarily occupied Oleshky in Ukraine’s Kherson region since 2022, leaving around 2,000 civilians trapped under a worsening humanitarian blockade. Russian forces have mined roads, restricted movement, blocked regular food and aid deliveries, and targeted evacuation routes with drones, leaving residents facing severe shortages of food, water, medicine, electricity, and heating.
UNITED24 Media reported that some residents have survived on almost nothing, while Russian forces have also seized humanitarian food delivered by Ukrainian drones.
“For humanitarian purposes, absolutely, especially when we are talking about the direct, very positive coordinating involvement in this process of the American side, American negotiators, and US First Lady Melania Trump,” Peskov stated.

“We highly appreciate these efforts, and of course this can become a precedent,” he added.
Peskov also expressed hope that Ukraine would fulfill what he described as agreements reached with the direct involvement of US negotiators acting on behalf of Melania Trump.
The ceasefire in Oleshky was announced on October 23 following US-mediated talks involving Melania Trump. UNITED24 Media reported that the arrangement was intended to allow humanitarian aid deliveries and civilian evacuations, while Russian forces were expected to suspend operations in the area and Ukraine prepared humanitarian corridors.
