Overnight Drone Strike Hits Energy Infrastructure Across Temporarily Occupied Crimea

Multiple energy-related facilities across temporarily occupied Crimea were reportedly targeted in an overnight drone attack on June 20, including a major power plant, a fuel storage terminal, and a gas distribution station.

NASA’s FIRMS satellite monitoring system detected multiple thermal anomalies at infrastructure sites across the peninsula following the attack. Local Telegram channels also reported explosions and fires in several areas of temporarily occupied Crimea during the night.

One of the reported targets was the Tavriiska Thermal Power Plant, also known as the Simferopol CCGT Power Plant, a 470-megawatt facility commissioned by Russia in 2019 after the occupation of Crimea. NASA’s FIRMS detected thermal anomalies consistent with fire activity at the site shortly before 02:00 local time.

Residents in several communities near Simferopol reported temporary power outages following the strike. Russian-installed occupation authorities had not publicly commented on the reported damage at the time of publication.

Fires were also recorded at a fuel and liquefied gas storage terminal operated by the Crimean fuel company TES, one of the peninsula’s largest fuel retailers. Satellite data showed multiple thermal anomalies within the facility during the night.

Another reported target was a gas distribution station near the village of Zhuravlivka in central Crimea. The facility is connected to the Dzhankoi–Simferopol gas pipeline and supplies surrounding settlements in the Simferopol and Krasnohvardiiske districts.

Earlier, Ukraine’s Unmanned Systems Forces reported a series of long-range drone strikes targeting Russian energy, logistics, and military infrastructure across occupied Crimea and southern Ukraine, including the Hlibivske underground gas storage facility on the Tarkhankut Peninsula, radar stations, fuel transport assets, and military command posts.
