Russia Accelerates Military Draft Orders to Boost Troops by Tens of Thousands

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated on May 27, that Russia is preparing a new wave of mobilization that could draft tens of thousands of people to compensate for its military losses.

The announcement followed an official meeting regarding the front-line situation and Ukraine’s defensive actions. Ukrainian authorities are receiving an increasing amount of intelligence regarding additional mobilization measures inside Russia.

According to intelligence reports, Moscow is intensifying the use of specific military draft orders, indicating a clear intent by the Kremlin to expand its occupation forces by at least tens of thousands of soldiers.

The Ukrainian president emphasized that these actions by the Russian Federation are a direct response to high battlefield losses and demonstrate that Moscow is not prepared for genuine diplomatic solutions.

Ukraine plans to share the gathered intelligence with international partners to increase pressure on Russia and strengthen Ukraine’s defense capabilities.

"We consider these Russian steps as proof that Moscow is not preparing for real diplomacy, and we will pass the data we have to our partners. Russia must end its war, and the world has levers of influence," Zelenskyy said.

Since the beginning of 2026, Russian losses on the frontline had reached 145,000 personnel, including nearly 86,000 killed, at least 59,000 seriously wounded, and more than 800 taken prisoner.

Zelenskyy noted that Ukrainian forces were achieving their objectives in the border areas of the Sumy region while continuing to destroy Russian manpower and equipment across other directions.
