Russian forces attacked a team of energy workers in Ukraine’s Kharkiv region, injuring two employees during a drone strike, Ukraine’s Energy Ministry reported on May 27.

According to the ministry, the energy crew came under attack by a Russian unmanned aerial vehicle while carrying out repair and maintenance duties.

“In the Kharkiv region, an energy workers’ brigade came under enemy UAV fire while performing official duties. As a result of the attack, two workers were injured. The victims were taken to hospital, where doctors provided all necessary medical assistance,” the ministry said.

The ministry also stated that ongoing hostilities and Russian strikes on energy infrastructure had left some consumers without electricity in the Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Sumy, and Kharkiv regions.

This is not the first time Russia has targeted Kharkiv’s critical infrastructure.

In September 2025, the city was hit by a large-scale drone attack involving 18 unmanned aerial vehicles, with the main strike directed at an energy facility. The assault led to power outages and disruptions to public electric transport.

Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov said that residential buildings, shops, and vehicles were damaged, although no casualties were reported. He added that specialists from Kharkivoblenergo and municipal services worked to restore electricity, while water supply was largely maintained, with temporary hot water shortages in some districts due to the blackout.

Separately, in October 2025, Russian forces struck a coal enrichment facility operated by DTEK  in Ukraine’s Dnipropetrovsk region, the company confirmed.

Although no employees were injured, the facility sustained damage, and DTEK teams continue to assess the extent of the destruction and address the consequences.
