Russia Attacks Sumy With Guided Bombs, Leaving Casualties Under Rubble

Russian forces attacked Sumy and its surrounding areas on September 18 with 6 to 7 guided aerial bombs, killing two people and injuring at least five others, including a child.
One of the guided bombs directly struck a multi-story residential building in the Kovpakivskyi district between the third and fourth floors, as reported by the Sumy Regional Military Administration.

The attack damaged at least four residential blocks, prompting ongoing search and rescue operations for individuals potentially trapped beneath the wreckage.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported that emergency crews arrived immediately to secure the scene and rescue survivors.
"All services are currently working at the site of an absolutely inhumane Russian strike on a residential high-rise in Sumy," Zelenskyy said.
"Four people have already been rescued from under the rubble, including a child. As of now, it is known that, unfortunately, two people have died."
The bombardment of Sumy took place alongside additional evening strikes targeting a clinic in Pavlohrad and logistics infrastructure in the Kyiv region.
Ukrainian leadership highlighted the urgent requirement to stop such strikes during Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
Zelenskyy also urged international partners to intensify measures against the aggression, pointing directly to legislative steps in the United States.
"We count on Lindsey Graham's bill eventually becoming law, and its leverage helping force Russia to choose peace," he stated.
Earlier, on July 11, Russia launched a separate guided bomb attack on Sumy that killed five civilians and injured 43 others.
Among those killed was a 13-year-old girl who died at a public transport stop alongside three adult men and a minibus driver.
