Russia Deliberately Bombs Medical Warehouses Across Ukraine—4 Strikes in the Past 2 Months

Alongside bombing civilians and crippling Ukraine’s power grid, Russia is now deliberately targeting pharmaceutical warehouses, cutting off access to essential medicines worth hundreds of millions of dollars. Ukraine’s pharmacy chains, as well as importers and manufacturers from Europe, India, and beyond, are facing devastating losses.

Russia’s primary military target remains Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. However, since October 2025, Russian missiles and drones have been increasingly targeting Ukraine’s pharmaceutical supply chain—with warehouses coming under systematic attack, week after week.

In the past two months alone, four major pharmaceutical warehouses have been destroyed, resulting in estimated losses of hundreds of millions of dollars. Ukraine’s pharmaceutical market sees annual volumes of $4–5 billion, meaning that within a matter of weeks, Russia has wiped out roughly 10%—and continues to do so.

Medicine warehouses: now Russia’s military target

On the morning of October 25, Kyiv was reeling from another missile strike: Russia killed two people, injured 13, and damaged dozens of buildings. Soon after, a press release appeared from “Optima-Pharm,” one of Ukraine’s largest pharmaceutical distributors, which held a 45% market share in 2023.

That night, Russia launched nine ballistic missiles at Kyiv; Ukrainian air defenses intercepted four. One of the missiles struck a large Optima-Pharm warehouse, causing $100 million in damages. The warehouse was completely destroyed, and the company’s offices were also hit.

Less than a month later, Optima-Pharm was again in the news after a second warehouse—this time in Dnipro—was completely destroyed in another missile strike. While the company did not disclose the financial loss, the facility was its central warehouse, spanning 29,000 square meters—a clear indication of another multi-million dollar blow.

This wasn’t the first such loss for Optima-Pharm. In August 2025, another Russian strike destroyed one of its warehouses. The scale of that damage was also not made public.

Then, in early December, a targeted strike completely destroyed the warehouse of BaDM, Ukraine’s second-largest pharmaceutical distributor. Together, Optima-Pharm and BaDM control about 87% of the market. Russia’s December attack alone resulted in the destruction of over $120 million worth of medicine.

BaDM, too, has a history of being targeted. Early in the full-scale invasion, its logistics hubs in Kyiv and Poltava regions were already destroyed by Russian forces.

That same day, December 6, a Russian drone strike hit the central warehouse of the “Med-Service” pharmacy chain. The facility stored medicines from hundreds of suppliers, serving 500 pharmacies. Built in 2023, the warehouse is now gone. Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, the company has already lost 70 pharmacies.

Terrorizing civilians

It’s increasingly clear that Russia’s objective is to terrorize Ukraine’s civilian population. The author of this article has been without power for eight hours; in some regions, people have been enduring outages of 15 hours or more.

Strikes on pharmacies and pharmaceutical infrastructure aim to cut off access to essential medicine. As warehouses and distributors are destroyed, deliveries are delayed, and costs are likely to rise, threatening the entire Ukrainian healthcare system. Rebuilding the destroyed warehouses will require tens of millions of dollars in investment—and, most critically, time.

The precision of the strikes leaves little doubt: this is not random. The Kremlin is deliberately inflicting maximum damage to make normal life in Ukraine—to the extent that’s still possible—utterly unfeasible.

The goal is clear: to break the will of the population and force a surrender.
