Russian forces launched a new wave of drone attacks on Ukraine on the night of February 28, causing significant damage in multiple regions. Explosions were reported in Kharkiv and Odesa, with a medical facility in Kharkiv struck and a fatality confirmed in the Odesa region.

According to Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov, a drone strike hit a medical institution in the city, igniting a fire. Emergency responders were deployed to the scene, but no casualties were reported from this particular attack.

In the Odesa region, an attack set fire to a private home, a business, and several vehicles. Local officials confirmed that one person was killed and another injured.

Ukrainian air defense forces tracked enemy drones moving in multiple directions throughout the night, prompting air raid alerts across several regions. Authorities continue to assess the damage and monitor further threats.

The news of the Russian drone attacks on Kharkiv and Odesa comes as the anticipated rare earth minerals agreement between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and U.S. President Donald Trump was canceled.

The deal, which aimed to boost U.S.-Ukraine cooperation, fell through after a tense meeting at the White House, where Trump pressed Zelenskyy to negotiate with Russia and warned of potential consequences for U.S. support. As Ukraine faces continued assaults, the breakdown of the agreement raises further questions about the future of U.S. assistance.

Previously, it was reported that at least seven people were killed and 11 wounded in Russian attacks on Ukraine’s Donetsk region.
