Russia launched an overnight missile attack on Kyiv and Zaporizhzhia regions, with monitoring channels reporting strikes involving North Korean ballistic missiles and Russian Zircon missiles.

“North Korean ballistic missiles are currently striking Kyiv and are only being detected when they hit their targets,” monitoring channels reported.

They added that Zircon missiles were launched toward Kyiv at the same time.

According to the reports, missile strikes were recorded in the areas of Zhuliany, Vyshneve, Irpin, Nyvky, and Boyarka.

Fires were reported at several locations, while emergency medical teams were dispatched to the Shevchenkivskyi district of Kyiv, according to Mayor Vitali Klitschko.

Monitoring channels also reported that a Zircon missile had reached an area near Zhytomyr before falling near Berdychiv.

Separately, local channels reported a large fire in Zaporizhzhia following what they described as strikes involving North Korean ballistic missiles and guided aerial bombs.

The reports come amid Ukrainian intelligence warnings about the deployment of a North Korean missile unit to western Russia. Moscow was preparing to establish a force of up to 120 ballistic missiles and six launchers for potential strikes against Ukraine, according to Ukrainian military intelligence.

Andrii Cherniak, a spokesperson for Ukraine’s Main Directorate of Intelligence, told Reuters on August 5 that Russia planed to deploy around 90 North Korean personnel to the Voronezh region and integrate the unit into its 112th Missile Brigade.
