Russia Lost More Than 10,000 Troops in a Single Week of Its War, Zelenskyy Says

Russia lost 10,660 troops killed or wounded across active sectors of the front over the past week, as Ukrainian forces continued operations in several of the most heavily contested areas, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on September 27.

The figure was announced following a briefing by Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Mykhailo Drapatyi. According to Zelenskyy, every Russian casualty included in the weekly count was supported by video evidence.
“In total, over the course of this week, across all active combat zones on the front lines, our units neutralized 10,660 Russian soldiers, including those killed and wounded. And each such Russian casualty is accompanied by video evidence,” Zelenskyy said.
The most intensive combat is currently taking place in the Pokrovsk, Kostiantynivka, and Lyman sectors, according to the president. Ukrainian forces are also carrying out operations in the Zaporizhzhia, Kharkiv, and Sumy regions.
Zelenskyy reported “important results” in the Lyman sector of the Donetsk region as part of Operation Vivaldi, as well as progress by Ukraine’s Air Assault Forces during a separate active-defense operation.
He separately praised the 3rd Army Corps and the 68th Separate Airmobile Brigade of the 8th Air Assault Forces Corps for their performance on the battlefield. Zelenskyy said Ukraine’s operations were limiting Russia’s ability to expand its offensive activity and added that he and Drapatyi had determined the Ukrainian military’s next steps.

“Every week like this on the front lines—which, given the nature of the overall situation, is becoming ours, Ukrainian—prevents Russia from launching a larger offensive against Ukraine,” Zelenskyy said.
Operation Vivaldi is being conducted in northern Donetsk region, where Ukrainian forces have reported regaining control of several settlements and clearing Russian positions around the Lyman sector.
During Operation Vivaldi, Ukrainian ground robots cleared 30 kilometers of routes in the Shandryholove sector in just two nights without sapper losses. The Third Army Corps said unmanned systems are increasingly deployed ahead of infantry for demining, assault support, logistics, and evacuations.
