Russian Attack Hits Kyiv and Region, Killing Three as Debris Lands at Western Embassy

A Russian attack on Kyiv and the surrounding Kyiv region on September 30 killed at least three people, including a child, and injured eight others.

According to Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko, two of the injured were hospitalized. Earlier in the attack, he said one wounded woman had been taken to hospital.

In the Sviatoshynskyi district, a fire broke out in an area of private residential buildings. A store building caught fire in the Obolonskyi district, while a warehouse was burning in the Holosiivskyi district. Emergency services were dispatched to the affected sites.

In central Kyiv’s Shevchenkivskyi district, debris was also discovered on the grounds of a Western embassy, according to preliminary information cited by Klitschko. Emergency crews were sent to inspect the site.

The attack also caused casualties and extensive damage in the wider Kyiv region. In Vyshhorod, a Russian strike destroyed a private residential building, the State Emergency Service reported.

During search-and-rescue operations, emergency workers found a child born in 2012 beneath the rubble. Rescuers attempted to save the child, but the child died.

Three other people, including another child, were injured in the attack on the Kyiv region.

Fires also broke out at a private home and an outbuilding in Vyshhorod, while eight garages were destroyed. Authorities were still assessing the number of vehicles damaged or destroyed. Emergency crews have since extinguished all fires.

The September 30 attack comes amid an increase in Russian aerial strikes against Ukraine. In September, Russian forces launched 3,177 jet-powered unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), compared with 2,850 in August.
